The healthy blood-forming cells are collected from the patient’s body before starting a procedure like a chemotherapy or radiation therapy. This means that the patient is the donor. The healthy cells are collected in the same manner as in the case of an allogeneic transplant, i.e. either by harvesting the bone marrow or directly from the peripheral blood. These cells are stored and administered back into the body of the patient after intensive treatment.
